The nutraceutical industry encompasses three main segments which include functional foods, dietary supplements, and herbal/natural products.
“Nutraceuticals” are substances that may be considered a food or part of a food which provides medical or health benefits, encompassing prevention and treatment of disease. These products are specifically engineered to fulfill certain dietary and mineral supplement needs. In India, nutraceuticals have been defined under Clause 22 of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006.
